Bulldogs Football Backs Out
Jan. 10, 2002
CORVALLIS-Oregon State is now looking for two home football games to complete its 2002 football schedule as Fresno State has asked to opt out of two contractual games with the Beavers over the next two years, it was announced Thursday by OSU Director of Athletics Mitch Barnhart.
Fresno State was schedule to visit Reser Stadium on September 21 this year. Instead, the Bulldogs will pay Oregon State $50,000.00 for the contractual cancellation clause in the contract.
'After several conversations over the last three weeks we thought we had arranged a new agreement with Fresno State to complete the series,' said Barnhart. 'After conversations today, it became apparent that Fresno State wished to opt out of the remaining two years of its scheduled contract with Oregon State.
'We are disappointed in the timing, however, we will move on and find a home game replacement for this year as well as a replacement for the September 6 game next year to complete our schedule,' Barnhart said.
'Our intentions have been, and still will be, to have seven home games in Reser Stadium for 2002,' Barnhart said.
Oregon State still has an opponent to be named for the season opener on either August 29 or August 31 at Reser Stadium.
The Beavers' schedule as it now stands follows:
