Swimming Plays Host To BYU, Utah This Weekend At Husky Pool
Jan. 10, 2002
SEATTLE - The University of Washington men's and women's swimming teams play host to a pair of Mountain West Conference (MWC) foes, BYU and Utah, this weekend at Husky Pool. The Huskies take on the MWC champion Cougars, Friday at 6 p.m., followed by another dual meet Saturday at 1 p.m., versus the Utes.
The Husky men's meet with BYU (3-0) is the team's first home dual meet at Husky Pool since it defeated the same Cougar team, 124-81, on November 20, 1999. The UW, who are currently 5-1 in dual meet action, lost to BYU three times last season, including a pair of defeats at the Big West Shootout, followed by another loss in Provo, Utah (95-142) on January 6. BYU has won 19 consecutive dual meets, dating back to the 1999-2000 season.
The Washington women (5-2) also will look to avenge a pair of losses to BYU a year ago. The Husky women defeated the Cougars in the two schools' opening meeting (55-40) at the Big West Shootout, but then dropped the next two, a day later at the Big West meet (65-73) and in Provo (108-131) on January 6. BYU enters this Friday's meet with a 3-1 overall record in 2001-2002.
Both Washington squads came out on the winning side in their last meeting with Utah, Nov. 12, 1999. The UW men won the dual meet, 147-107, while the Husky women defeated the Utes 157-90, at Husky Pool. The Utah women's team enters this Saturday's meet with a 2-3 record, while the Utah men are 1-2 overall in 2001-02.
The pair of meets this weekend will be followed by a home meet versus Air Force and UC Davis, next Saturday, January 19, at 1 p.m.
