Carrie Walsh Selected To The 2001 District VIII Women's Soccer Academic All-America Team

Stamford, Conn. - A total of 11 female student-athletes from ten different NCAA Division I schools comprise the 2001 Verizon Women's Soccer Academic All-American Team for District VII as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). In order to be eligible for Academic All-American honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, must be a starter or an important reserve and be in at least their second season at their current school.
Stanford's Carrie Walsh enjoyed a banner season as the starting goalkeeper, and played in all but 13 minutes in 2001. The Los Gatos, Calif., native holds the single-season record for minutes played with 1978. She also recorded five shutouts, including a shutout against Denver in the first round of the College Cup.
Walsh holds a 3.83 GPA in Japanese and Spanish. She also was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic First Team.
District VIII includes schools in the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and British Columbia. The District VIII student-athletes advance to the Verizon All-American national ballot. The national Verizon Academic All-American Women's Soccer Team will be announced on February 7, 2002.
