Cougs Sign JC Star Jermaine Green From Kansas
Jan. 11, 2002
PULLMAN, Wash. -- Jermaine Green, a running back from Butler County Community College in Kansas, has signed a national letter of intent and will enroll at Washington State University next week, Cougar football coach Mike Price has confirmed.
Green, who rushed for 1,010 yards and scored 72 points last fall, is ranked as the 55th best junior college player in the nation by jcfootball.com and is #5 among their running backs.
'Jermaine is a real good player and will be in the mix this spring,' offered Price. 'Adding a player with his experience to the younger player will result in some fierce competition this spring.'
The newest Cougar hails from Daytona Beach, Florida, and attended Spruce Creek High before enrolling two years ago at the three-time national champion community college in Kansas.
The grizzlies captured the Kansas community college title this year and finished 10-2, including an appearance in the Golden Isle Bowl, where they lost to Georgia Military 31-19.
Green rushed for 100 yards or more six times, including career highs of 29 carries and 168 yards against Coffeyville CC on BCCC's way to the state title.
WSU last month announced the signing of junior college linebacker Kevin Sperry from LA Harbor College, who also will enroll in January. Only mid-year transfers can currently sign NLIs. Fall enrollees from high schools and junior colleges will begin signing in February.
