Nicole Powell Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week For The Third Time This Season

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Stanford sophomore forward Nicole Powell has been named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 7-13, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Powell, from Phoenix, Ariz., averaged a near triple-double as she helped the Cardinal to a home sweep over Oregon State and Oregon. On the weekend she averaged 21.5 points, 17.0 rebounds and 8.5 assists. In the 91-76 win over Oregon Jan. 13, she inked her name in the Stanford record books as she grabbed 21 rebounds, besting the old mark of 20 set by both Kathy Murphy (1978) and Maggie Nelson (1977). She also added 23 points, seven assists and was 10-of-12 from the free throw line. Against the Beavers Jan. 11, she barely missed a triple-double finishing with 20 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists in the 91-54 victory.
On the season Powell is averaging 16.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists. In Pac-10 play she is averaging 20.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 5.7 assists. In 47 career games, Powell now has 16 double-doubles and three triple-doubles. The fourth-ranked Cardinal (16-1, 6-0 Pac-10) travel to Washington State and Washington this week.
The Player of the Week honor is the fourth of Powell's career and third this season. This is the 44th all-time selection for Stanford.
