UCLA Forward Matt Barnes Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player Of The Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ï¿½ UCLA senior forward Matt Barnes has been named thePacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for January 8 -13, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.Along with his Pac-10 Player ofthe Week honor, Barnes was also named the Sports Illustrated andCollegeInsider.com Player of the Week.
Barnes, from Fair Oaks, Calif., averaged 30.5 points and 5.0 rebounds intwo games this past week. His impressive play helped guide the Bruins toan 87-77 upset win over top-ranked Kansas.
In UCLA's 81-77 loss to USC, Barnes had a career-high 34 points whileadding five rebounds and two assists. He shot 12-of-17 (.706) from thefield and 7-of-11 (.636) from three-point range. His seventhree-pointers against the Trojans tied a school record. Two days lateragainst Kansas, Barnes posted a game-high 27 points, shooting 10-of-14(.714) from the field and 3-of-4 (.750) from three-point range, with fiverebounds, two assists and one steal.
For the week, Barnes shot 22-of-31 (.710) from the field, 10-of-15 (.667)from three-point range and 7-of-10 (.700) from the foul line. Barnes' 61points in back-to-back games is the most by a Bruin since the 1994-95season.
It is the first weekly award for Barnes, the 37th all-time honor for theBruins.
