The Facts
The USC women's basketball team (9-7, 5-2 Pac-10) returns home for the first time in nearly a month as it prepares to host Arizona (7-8, 3-4 Pac-10) on Thursday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. and No. 23 Arizona State (14-4, 5-2 Pac-10) on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 4 p.m. Both games will be played at the Sports Arena. The games can be heard live and followed with the Fansonly Gametracker at www.usctrojans.com. The Women of Troy are coming off their first win at Pauley Pavilion since 1997, defeating UCLA, 67-57, on Sunday (Jan. 13).

Previous Game Results
at UCLA - Led by Carmen Krause in her final game as a Trojan in Westwood, USC defeated UCLA, 67-57, in front of 5,331 on Sunday (Jan. 13) at Pauley Pavilion. The victory was the Women of Troy's first at Pauley since 1997, and Chris Gobrecht's first-ever in Westwood as USC's head coach. It seemed one-sided from the start as the Women of Troy took a 43-23 lead into the break. USC shot 60.7 percent from the field in the first half and held the Bruins to 24.2 percent. Krause scored a career-high 14 points just in the first 20 minutes. The Bruins returned to the court with renewed intensity for the second half, but with each field goal UCLA managed to sink at the start, the Trojans responded and maintained a 17-point advantage after the first 10 minutes. What was to follow was a series of fouls and technical fouls which allowed the Bruins to come within 10 (67-57) as time ran out after hitting 6-of-10 shots at the line down the stretch. Ebony Hoffman and UCLA's Shalada Allen were ejected from the game with 5:32 on the clock. Gobrecht was charged with her first technical foul at 4:56 and a second at 1:12, leading to her ejection. Krause, who finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds, led four Women of Troy in double figures. Hoffman contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds and tied a career high with four blocks.

The Aftermath
Charged with a flagrant technical foul (double technical) and ejected from the UCLA game (Jan. 13), Ebony Hoffman (along with UCLA's Shalada Allen) likely will sit out with a one-game suspension for fighting. An official conference ruling should be announced late Tuesday (Jan. 15).

Injury Report
Tiffany Elmore suffered a severe left ankle sprain against Washington on Jan. 6. She is expected to resume practicing this week but will miss the Arizona game (Jan. 17) and is listed as questionable for the Arizona State game on Jan. 19.

Still The Best Since 1997
With a 5-2 record to start the Pac-10 season, this still remains USC's best start in conference play since 1997. Under then-head coach Fred Williams, the 1997 Women of Troy were 6-1 seven games into the Pac-10 season (narrowly falling to Stanford, 77-76, for their only loss). That season the Trojans went 13-5 in the Pac-10 and finished third (their best finish since then).

Common Connections vs. Arizona
Arizona forward Robin Roberson and USC's Aisha Hollans both attended Berkeley (Calif.) High. Roberson graduated in 2001, while Hollans finished the year before, but both played on Berkeley High's 2000 squad which advanced to the CIF California Division I finals. Arizona guard Aimee Grzyb is a former prep teammate of USC's recent transfer addition Rometra Craig. The two players both graduated from Archbishop Mitty High (San Jose, Calif.) in 2000.

Common Connections vs. Arizona State
Arizona State Head Coach Charli Turner Thorne served as a graduate assistant for two years at Washington (1988-90) under Chris Gobrecht. 'The Washington staff was wonderful to work with,' states Turner Thorne in the 2002 ASU media guide. 'It was their influence that helped me truly believe in a unique style of pressure defense.'

Home Sweet Home
The Women of Troy just finished another tough road swing. USC played five-straight games on the road and returns home this Thursday, Jan. 17, for the first time since before the holidays (Dec. 22). This time the distance of travel was not as harsh as an earlier trip this season (when USC played four of its first five on the road in Pennsylvania, Tennessee and the Virgin Islands) and the team managed to come away with a 3-2 record.

Receiving Votes
USC received three votes (No. 44) in this week's ESPN/USA Today Top 25.

Battle For the Lexus Gauntlet
USC captured the first five of a possible 10 points to be awarded in women's basketball for the Lexus Gauntlet Challenge -- a season-long competition between USC and UCLA. This unique program awards points for the winner of each Bruin-Trojan head-to-head contest throughout the year and the Lexus Gauntlet trophy will be awarded to the school with the most points at year's end. With the Women of Troy's win on Sunday (Jan. 13), USC leads 30-17.5.

Gobrecht Earns 200th Conference Win
Head coach Chris Gobrecht earned her 200th all-time conference victory on Sunday (Jan. 14) against UCLA. Her 200-165 conference record includes a 165-94 mark in the Pac-10 (USC 1998- , Washington 1987-96), an 0-16 ACC record (Florida State 1997), a 10-2 record in the Pac West (Washington 1986) and a 25-53 record in the Pacific Coast Athletic Association (Cal State Fullerton 1980-85).

Leading the Pac-10 In Offensive Boards
The Women of Troy are averaging a conference-best 17.81 offensive rebounds per game and lead second-place UCLA by a 1.41 margin. This has been a strong category for the Trojans in recent years. USC finished second to UCLA last season with a 16.72 average.

Hollans Leading Pac-10 Guards
Shooting guard Aisha Hollans not only ranks third in the Pac-10 in scoring with an average of 18.3 points per game, but she is also averaging 7.1 rebounds per outing. The rebounding mark ranks sixth among conference leaders and tops Pac-10 guards.

Doubling Up
Sophomore forward Ebony Hoffman has posted eight double-doubles in 15 games this season. She now has collected 12 career double-doubles.

Scoring Threat
Sophomore guard Aisha Hollans has scored more than 20 points in eight games this season and has tallied more than 15 points in 10 of 16. She also has posted four double-doubles.

Against Ranked Opponents
Before the Florida match-up, the last time USC defeated a ranked opponent was last season when the Trojans beat then-No. 20 Oregon, 55-53, on Jan. 25, 2001. Following are this season's results against Top 25 teams:

Nov. 18	at No. 2 Tennessee Knoxville, Tenn.	L, 106-66Nov. 24	vs. No. 12 Florida Paradise Jam - V.I.	W, 71-68Dec. 9	at No. 23 Notre Dame South Bend, Ind.	L, 62-49Dec. 30	at No. 6 Stanford Stanford, Calif.	L, 78-66Jan. 19	vs. No. 23 Arizona State	Los Angeles ---

Women of Troy Taking Over The Charts
With solid contributions from its entire bench, USC has taken over the Pac-10 statistical charts. The Trojans have four players listed among the top 20 scorers and rebounders (USC has more players listed in these two categories than any other school - Oregon State is next with five). Four Women of Troy are also listed in the top 10 for offensive boards and three for steals.

Even Contributions
The Trojans have four players averaging double figures in scoring, Aisha Hollans (18.3 ppg), Ebony Hoffman (14.2 ppg), Tiffany Elmore (11.7 ppg) and Rachel Woodward (10.8 ppg). Four also average more than 5.2 rebounds per game, Hoffman (8.7 rpg), Hollans (7.1 rpg), Elmore (5.2 rpg and Carmen Krause (5.2 rpg).
