Fullerton, Calif. - The second-ranked UCLA gymnastics team earned a triangular meet victory over Cal State Fullerton and Boise State in front of 818 at Titan Gym Friday night. The Bruins, which competed all of their healthy athletes, scored a 192.775 to outscore the second-place Titans 191.95 and third-place Broncos 189.4.
Making their career competitive debuts were redshirt freshman Trishna Patel, who competed on vault, and true freshman Natasha Desai, who competed on vault and bars. Sophomore Christy Erickson competed for the first time on vault, and freshman Michelle Conway saw her first action of her collegiate career on bars and beam.
The Bruins trailed Boise State after one rotation but overtook the Broncos after rotation two and extended the lead after the third rotation on floor. Leading the Bruins on floor was sophomore Jamie Dantzscher, who recorded her sixth 10 on floor to set a new school record with nine career 10s. It marked the second consecutive meet in which she scored a 10 (she scored one on vault in the Bruins' last meet at Georgia). Yvonne Tousek tied her career-high with a 9.95, and Erickson set a new best with a 9.6, as the Bruins broke the 49 barrier on floor for the first time this year (49.125).
The Bruins will host Arizona State on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 2 pm in Pauley Pavilion.
