UW's Claire Carter Defeated in Quarterfinals of Pac-10 Indoor Championships

SEATTLE - Washington's Claire Carter was defeated in the quarterfinals of the Pac-10 Indoor Championships by UCLA's Sara Walker, 6-3, 6-2, this evening. Carter advanced to the second round with a 6-4, 6-2, win over Davina Mendiburu of Oregon earlier today.
In Flight I singles, 35th ranked Darija Klaic competed against USC's Jewel Peterson, a No. 2 seed, and was defeated by the Trojan in three sets, 0-6, 6-4, 7-6. Klaic will face ASU's Cindy Sureephong in the consolation round.
Ilona Kordonskaya who competed in Singles Flight II, downed Chris Martinez of WSU in two sets, 6-2, 6-3. She will face Luana Magnani of USC in the quarterfinals later this evening. Erin Hoe, lost an intense match too UCLA's Petya Marinova, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 4-6.
Two more Huskies were successful in first round action. Junior Colleen Gray defeated Marie-Pier Pouliot of Arizona in two sets, 7-5, 6-4, while Junior Andrea Coulter took care of California's Nicole Havlicek 1-6, 7-5, 6-2. Both will continue play later this evening.
Pac-10 Indoor play resumes Saturday in the Nordstrom Tennis Center beginning at 9 a.m.
