Fresno State Returns to Football Schedule
Jan. 22, 2002
Corvallis, Ore. - After Fresno State had asked to opt out of a two-game football series with Oregon State on January 10, the Bulldogs have done an about face and the two schools have resigned a new contract to play on the originally scheduled dates, starting with September 21 in Corvallis.
The new contract for the two-game series was signed Tuesday, according to Mitch Barnhart, OSU's director of athletics.
'The world of college football scheduling has become very difficult with the movement of coaches and the finances of each individual institution playing a large role in who we play,' said Barnhart.
'Fresno State explored some other options and determined after its investigation that it was in Fresno State's best interest to complete the contract which was in place with Oregon State,' Barnhart continued. 'Although we have come full circle, we feel it is in the best interest of both parties to see through to the conclusion of this contract.'
Under the newly signed contract, the Beavers will host the Bulldogs at Reser Stadium on September 21 and travel to Fresno for a return game on September 6, 2003.
'Our 2002 football schedule is tentatively completed,' said Barnhart. 'We are waiting for a signed contract from another opponent, which will give us seven home games in 2002.'
Oregon State will open the season on either August 29 or Aug. 31 against an opponent to be named.
The Beavers' schedule as it currently stands follows:
