Softball ranked 18th in USA Today/NFCA preseason poll

CORVALLIS, Ore. - - The Oregon State softball team is ranked 18th in the preseason USA Today/NFCA preseason poll, which was released Wednesday.
OSU, which finished the 2001 season ranked 20th with a record of 44-24-1 (10-10 Pac-10), is one of seven Pacific-10 Conference teams ranked in the preseason poll. The Beavers received 207 points, and are ranked in the top 25 for the fourth consecutive year.
The Beavers return 13 of 15 letterwinners and seven starters off of last year's squad that went to the NCAA Regionals for the third straight year.
Arizona (1st), UCLA (2nd), Stanford (3rd), California (5th), Arizona State (8th), and Washington (9th) were the other Pac-10 schools ranked in the preseason poll. Arizona received 20 of the 27 first-place votes, with UCLA getting the remaining seven.
The Beavers first competition will be Feb. 2-3 at the Southern Utah Tournament, when they take on BYU, San Diego, Southern Utah, and Saint Mary's.
