No. 14 Men's Basketball Try to Complete Los Angeles Sweep In Pac-10 Action

Los Angeles, Calif. - Stanford tries to complete a critical road sweep of its Los Angeles-areaPac-10 rivals when it plays Southern California at the Sports Arena onSaturday.

The 14th-ranked Cardinal (12-4, 5-2) remained tied for second place in the conference with Thursday's 86-76 triumph over No. 13 UCLA at Pauley Pavilion,their first over a ranked opponent this season.

Julius Barnes scored 23 points while Casey Jacobsen hit two 3-pointers in agame-breaking 18-7 run that snapped a 57-57 tie. Jacobsen finished with 20points despite shooting just 6-of-19 from the field, and Josh Childress had acareer-high 12 rebounds to help Stanford amass a 45-37 edge on the boards.

The Cardinal have enjoyed making trips downstate, sweeping UCLA and USC onthe road the last four seasons. They have not lost at the Los Angeles SportsArena since an 84-81 defeat to USC on Feb. 6, 1997.

Stanford has made 43.6 percent (24-for-55) of its 3-point attempts over thelast three games, and is shooting 35.3 percent from behind the arc for theseason.

Southern California (14-4, 6-2), ranked 23rd, missed out on a chance toclaim sole possession of first place in the Pac-10 on Thursday, losing 92-91 inovertime to visiting California. Sam Clancy had 26 points and 11 rebounds forthe Trojans, who were burned defensively for 15 3-pointers - including one astime expired by Shantay Lagans for the game-winning points.

'They were the worst 3-point shooting team in the Pac-10 coming in, soyou've got to go with the percentages,' USC coach Henry Bibby said. 'But onthe last play, we wanted our guys to be up on them.'

Clancy has double-doubles in four straight games, averaging 23.8 points and11.5 rebounds in that span. The senior forward is averaging team highs of 18.2points and 9.4 rebounds.

Stanford has won seven of the last eight games between the teams, but USCstill holds a slim 109-107 lead in the all-time series.
