UCLA Women Place Third at Illinois Women's T & F Invite

Jeanette Bolden's UCLA women's track and field team placed third on Saturday (Jan. 26) atthe Illinois Women's Invitational, held at Champaign, IL.
The Bruins, preseason rated No. 5 among women's collegiate indoor teams, finished thirdwith 124.00 points, behind winner and host No. 7 Illinois (141.00), second-place No. 19 BYU (135.00)and finishing fourth was No. 15 Miami (FL) (103.00).
Johnson won the 400m (54.32 NCAA provisional qualifier) and also placed fourth in thetriple jump (38-4.75). Griffith won the high jump (5-10, NCAA provisional qualifier) and was eighthin the long jump (17-10.75) and seventh in the triple jump (36-10.50). O'Hara won the pole vault(13-6.25, NCAA automatic qualifier).
UCLA's 4 X 400m (3:43.67, NCAA provisional qualifier) and distance medley (11:23.18,NCAA provisional qualifier) relays also placed first.
Second-place Bruin finishers included - junior Tiffany Burgess in the 800m (2:13.54),freshman Jamie Kolar in the pole vault (11-3.75) and junior Cari Soong in the 20 lb. weight throw(61-6.75, NCAA provisional qualifier). Soong also was seventh in the shot put (41-5.75).
UCLA's third-place finisher was senior Suzanne Lynn in the shot put (44-11.50).
The UCLA women and men's teams continue the 2002 collegiate indoor campaign onSaturday (Feb. 2) at the Washington Invitational in Seattle.
