Men's Tennis Topples St. Mary's

EUGENE,Ore. - The University of Oregon men's tennis team made quick work of the St. Mary's Gael's Friday afternoon, winning 7-0 at the Student Tennis Center.
Oregon set the tone with dominating doubles play. The tandem of freshmen Manuel Kost and Johan Paalberg blanked Josh Farley and Phillip Laubscher 8-0 in the No. 3 doubles spot. In No. 1 doubles, Odeg Teig and Sven Swinnen defeated Frank Schmitt and J.J. Whitlinger 8-3, and Jason Menke and Chris King completed the sweep with an 8-2 victory over Frank Sarovic and Thomas Burgemeister in No. 2 doubles.
In singles competition, the Ducks continued to roll, winning all six matches. Junior Oded Teig, playing in the No. 2 singles spot, shut out Arturo Planell 6-0, 6-0, while Kost protected his undefeated campaign, defeating Schmitt 6-2, 7-6. Kost is now 5-0. Veteran junior Jason Menke continued to impress, as he cruised by Thomas Burgemeister 6-2, 6-4, to improve his singles record to 10-1.
The Ducks travel north on Saturday to face in-state rival Portland, with the match starting at 1 p.m.
