Men's Track Post Four Wins & Two NCAA Prov. Marks in Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Oregon men's team posted four wins and two NCAA provisional marks Friday in the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, hosted by the University of Nebraska in the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Redshirt junior Jason Boness led the Ducks with a win, season best and NCAA provisional mark of 7-1 3/4 in the high jump. Other Duck wins came courtesy of senior Simon Kimata (800, 1:50.43) and juniors Foluso Akinradewo (triple jump, 50-3 1/2) and Jason Hatmann (5,000, 14:20.91) with Akinradewo's leap a quarter-inch indoor personal best.

The Duck sprinters posted their best effort of the season thanks to season debuts by juniors Samie Parker and Allan Amundson. Parker missed the NCAA provisional mark in the 60 meters by only .01 seconds with his third-place clocking of 6.73, and also ran 6.79 earlier in the afternoon in the preliminary round. Amundson moved to second on the Ducks' season best list (seventh-finals, 6.92), and junior Cory Gray (10th-prelims, 7.01) missed qualifying for the final by only .06 seconds.

Junior Terry Ellis turned in an auspicious season debut in the 60 hurdles, missing his personal best by only .01 seconds with his prelim effort (fourth, 8.02), then returned to take fourth in the final (8.05).

Sophomore pole vaulter Trevor Woods tied his season best and NCAA provisional mark (third, 17-4 1/2), followed closely by redshirt senior Cody Howell (fourth, 16-6 3/4) and redshirt junior Jason Slye (fifth, 16-6 3/4).

Redshirt freshman Eric Logsdon and redshirt senior Adam Bergquist ran the team's fastest times of the year in the 3,000 and placed fourth (8:20.21) and fifth (8:20.25), and redshirt freshman Noel Paulson was less than two seconds off his best in the mile to lead the Ducks Friday (second, 4:08.52).

Other strong Ducks marks came from juniors Jake Horner (high jump, fifth, personal bests, 6-8 3/4) and Adam Kriz (weight throw, third, personal best 60-5) and senior Billy Pappas (long jump, 22-9).

Looking ahead, the Duck women compete Sat., Feb. 9 in the Washington Invitational in Seattle. The Oregon men return to action in two weekends in Mountain Pacific Championships in Flagstaff, Ariz., Feb. 22-23.
