Feb. 9, 2002
PORTLAND, Ore. - The University of Oregon men's tennis team had to battle to earn a 4-3 win over the Portland Pilots on Saturday.
The Ducks were able to earn the doubles point, which clinched the win after splitting the singles matches. In singles, sophomore Martin Pawlowski battled three sets to put away Portland's Nick Tostenrude, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 at the No. 3 position.
'We played well enough to come away with a win,' said head coach Chris Russell, 'They had a good homecourt advantage. I think this gave us a taste of some of the tough matches to come.'
Oregon moves to 5-1 in dual competition. Up next the Ducks travel to face Boise State on February 2 in Boise, Idaho.
