WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- STANFORD sophomore forward Nicole Powell has been named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 4-10, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Powell, from Phoenix, Ariz., averaged 21.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 1.5 steals as No. 2 Stanford posted its first road sweep of the Oregon schools since 1998, thereby clinching no less than a share of its 11th Pac-10 title. On the weekend, Powell shot 50.0 percent from the field (14-of-28), 45.5 percent from 3-point range (5-of-11) and 71.4 percent from the foul line (10-of-14).
In the 77-72 win over Oregon, Powell notched 20 points, adding six rebounds, six assists and three steals. It marked Stanford's first victory in Eugene since Mar. 5, 1998. In the 89-67 victory at Oregon State, she recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 23 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in 31 minutes. She shot 64.3percent from the floor (9-of-14) and went 3-of-6 from 3-point range.
With the two victories last week, Stanford (24-1, 14-0 Pac-10) clinched at least a share of its 11th Pac-10 title. The Cardinal has a chance to clinch the title outright when it hosts second-place Washington (15-8, 10-4) Thursday at 7 p.m. in Palo Alto.
The Player of the Week honor is the fifth of Powell's career and the 46th all-time selection for Stanford.
