Recently Eugene Harris and Tony Overstake were perfect last week, winning all three of their matches. As a team, Oregon defeated Bakersfield, 35-9, and No. 21 Fresno State, 20-16, before falling, 19-15, to Cal Poly. Two weeks ago the Ducks were narrowly edged by No. 24 Boise State, 19-13 before falling 30-11 against No. 10 Arizona State. In Oregon's dual doubleheader versus Pacific and Central Washington, the Ducks won nine matches with bonus points. Eugene Harris won by fall against Pacific (0:37) and by technical fall against Central Washington. Also winning by fall were: Shaun Williams (125) and Tony Overstake (157). Harris, Watson and heavyweight Eric Webb picked up Oregon's three victories versus No. 4 Michigan Jan. 11.
A Look At Oregon StateThe Beavers are 11-7 overall, 6-1 Pac-10 after defeating Cal Poly and Bakersfield last week. No. 21 Fresno State handed the Beavers their only loss of the weekend, a 19-15 set back on Sunday. Both Isaac Weber (184) and Ale DeLaPena (125) have won their last six competitions.
The SeriesOregon State leads the series, 72-22-2, over Oregon. The Ducks defeated the Beavers, 22-16, at McArthur Court a year ago and were edged 16-16 earlier this season.
Head Coach Chuck Kearney The fourth year Oregon head coach has a 31-29 overall record at Oregon. Kearney is a former Oregon wrestler (177) who earned All-America honors and was the team's Most Valuable Wrestler in 1988 after leading the squad to a 34-8-1 record. Kearney is a former Pac-10 Champion and his 34 wins in 1988 rank seventh all-time at Oregon for wins in a season. Kearney's assistants are Rick Stewart (Oklahoma State, 1982) and Jeremy Ensrud (Oregon 1998). Stewart, who wrestled at Oklahoma State, is a two-time NCAA Champion and four-time All-American. Ensrud is a two-time All-American and compiled a 106-29 record at Oregon.
