Previous Game Results
vs. UCLA - USC swept crosstown rival UCLA with a 71-58 victory in front of 3,217 at the Sports Arena Saturday (Feb. 9) afternoon. This is the first series sweep for the Women of Troy against the Bruins since the 1996-97 season and the first under head coach Chris Gobrecht. The Women of Troy were led by Aisha Hollans (24 points) and Jessica Cheeks (15 points), while Rachel Woodward added 13 points and seven boards. The Trojans never trailed in the game and were dominant for much of the contest. Cheeks scored 13 points in the first half, surpassing her season-best point total, as USC jumped out to a nine-point lead. In the final four minutes of the half, USC went on a 12-6 run to take a 34-27 lead into the break. UCLA managed to come within four (34-30) in the first minute of the second half thanks to a three-pointer by Whitney Jones, but the Bruins would get no closer. The Women of Troy responded with consecutive three-pointers of their own and built the lead back up to 10 (40-30) at the 18:04 mark. With 25 points off of Bruin turnovers, USC was up by as much as 17 twice in the contest.

Battle For the Lexus Gauntlet
With two wins over the Bruins this season, USC captured all 10 points awarded in women's basketball for the Lexus Gauntlet Challenge -- a season-long competition between USC and UCLA. This unique program awards points for the winner of each Bruin-Trojan head-to-head contest throughout the year and the Lexus Gauntlet trophy will be awarded to the school with the most points at year's end. USC currently leads 37.5-30.0.

On A Win Streak
For the first time since late December, the Women of Troy have put together a win streak. After winning four consecutive games Dec. 15 through Dec. 28, USC alternated wins and losses for the next 10 contests. The wins over Washington State (Feb. 3) and UCLA (Feb. 9) mark the first streak in nearly six weeks.

Records Don't Tell The Whole Story
Eight of USC's 10 losses this season have been by 10 points or less, including four by four points or less (Texas, BYU, Washington, Arizona). Two of the losses have been in overtime.

Common Connections vs. Arizona State
Arizona State Head Coach Charli Turner Thorne served as a graduate assistant for two years at Washington (1988-90) under Chris Gobrecht. 'The Washington staff was wonderful to work with,' states Turner Thorne in the 2002 ASU media guide. 'It was their influence that helped me truly believe in a unique style of pressure defense.'

Common Connections vs. Arizona
Arizona forward Robin Roberson and USC's Aisha Hollans both attended Berkeley (Calif.) High. Roberson graduated in 2001, while Hollans finished the year before, but both played on Berkeley High's 2000 squad which advanced to the CIF California Division I finals. Arizona guard Aimee Grzyb is a former prep teammate of USC's recent transfer addition Rometra Craig. The two players both graduated from Archbishop Mitty High (San Jose, Calif.) in 2000.

Down the Stretch
Entering the final stretch of the conference season, with only four games remaining, here are USC's chances in the conference race. Stanford has clinched the title, but the Women of Troy remain only one game behind second-place Washington and 1/2 game behind third-place Arizona State. USC still has one remaining meeting against the Cardinal and the Sun Devils.

The Best Since 1997
With an 9-5 record so far in the Pac-10 season, this is USC's best conference season since 1997. Under then-head coach Fred Williams, the 1997 Women of Troy were 11-3, with four games remaining in the Pac-10 season (twice falling to Stanford and once to Arizona). That season the Trojans went 13-5 in the Pac-10 and finished third (their best finish since then).

The Last Time...
The last time the Women of Troy finished higher than fifth in the Pac-10 was in 1997... The last time USC finished in second place or higher was in 1994 when the Trojans won the Pac-10 title with a 16-2 conference record... The last time the Trojans finished in third place was in 1997... The last time the Women of Troy finished in second place was in 1993... The Trojans have never finished fourth in the Pac-10.

Not So Good Thursdays, Flawless Saturdays
Days of the week do matter for the Women of Troy. USC is 1-3 this season when playing on Thursdays and 6-0 when playing on Saturdays.

Only Getting Better

Against nonconference opponents she averaged 12.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, but in conference play she has tallied 16.4 points and 10.1 boards per outing. In the month of November she averaged 12.3 points and 7.0 rebounds... this month she's up to 16.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per contest.

A Growing Crowd In L.A.
USC has played in front of two 3,000+ home crowds this season (Jan. 19 and Feb. 9), marking the largest single-game attendance in nearly 20 years (back in the Cheryl Miller days).

Minpg	Ppg	FG%	3-FG%	FT%	Rpg	Apg	Spg	Bpg

Opponent Notes

Arizona State (19-7, 10-5 Pac-10) -- Arizona State is coming off a split in Washington last week. The Sun Devils defeated Washington State, 75-56, but fell to Washington, 68-50, to end a three-game win streak. The team is led by guard Amanda Levens, who ranks third in the Pac-10 with 17.3 points per game, and center Melody Johnson, who averages 6.7 rebounds per game and ranks second in the conference in field goal percentage (55.4). This season, ASU leads the conference in scoring defense (58.6), three-point field goal percentage defense (30.1) and rebounding defense (32.7).

With a 41-7 overall series record in Troy's favor, Thursday's game will mark the 49th meeting between these two squads. USC is 18-4 all-time at ASU's Wells Fargo Arena.

The Last Time... USC upset then-No. 23 Arizona State, 68-49, in front of 3,808 at the Sports Arena on Jan. 19. The Women of Troy got key double-double performances from both Ebony Hoffman (13 points, 12 rebounds) and Carmen Krause (10 points, 10 rebounds). The game remained close at the start until USC built a 28-17 lead with 5:16 remaining in the half by forcing Arizona State to commit seven turnovers. However, the Sun Devils used a 7-0 run in the final minutes to enter the break only down by four, 28-24. The Women of Troy dominated the second half, jumping out to a 34-27 lead in the first five minutes. After two consecutive steals, the Trojans extended that lead to 10 (47-37) at the 10- minute mark. Key rebounding by USC (which outrebounded ASU 47 to 36) down the stretch kept the Sun Devils from getting back into the game. The Trojans were up by as many as 21 points.
