Dick Erickson Bobblehead Giveaway Set for Saturday
Feb. 13, 2002
Seattle - A Dick Erickson bobblehead doll, sponsored by Fox Sports Net Northwest, will be distributed Saturday, Feb. 16 before Washington's men's basketball game with California at Bank of America Arena. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. and Arena doors will open at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast by Fox Sports Net.
The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive the life-like ceramic doll that resembles the Huskies' long-time crew coach who passed away last summer. Another 2,500 Erickson bobbleheads will be distributed to fans attending Washington women's basketball game on Feb. 23 against Oregon.
Erickson won the Fox Sports Net internet promotion by a write-in vote on a ballot that included Husky men's basketball coach Bob Bender, women's coach June Daugherty, football coach Rick Neuheisel and UW's mascot, Harry the Husky.
Erickson coached the Husky men's crew team from 1968 to 1982, winning a national championship in 1984. His men's teams won 15 Pacific Coast Rowing titles. He was also responsible for helping to launch Washington's highly successful women's rowing program. He was inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame on two occasions, in 1984 as part of the 1958 national championship crew and in 1994 as the head coach of men's crew.
