Bulls Top Aggies In Second Game Of Pepsi Arizona Softball Classic

TUCSON--South Florida (4-7-1) scored four runs in the bottom of theseventh to win a see-saw Game 2 of the Pepsi Arizona Softball Classic overNex Mexico State (6-9). The Bulls banged out 16 hits in the game while theAggies had 17.
Courtney Lewellan's fielder's choice grounder scored Shelly Riker fromthird for the winning run. Stephanie Roberts had a two-run triple and NikiTrowell singled in a run earlier in the frame.
NMSU jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in the first when Linzi Wescott singledand Kelly Rhyne homered to left.
USF answered in the bottom of the inning. Stephanie Roberts singled, stolesecond and scored when Shelly Riker singled and the throw sailed wide atfirst, then an out later Courtney Lewellan homered to center to tie the game.
Roberts hit a stand-up triple to right-center to drive in a run in thesecond and give USF a 3-2 lead, but Christina Stephens doubled in a run andMel Briggs hit a sacrifice fly for NMSU in the top of the third to re-gainthe lead.
Rena Rodriguez doubled in a run and Racel Williams singled her in to givethe lead back to USF, 5-4, in the bottom of the inning.
Linzi Westcott and Stephens had run-scoring singles, Briggs hit a two-rundouble and Tersha Brown singled in a run in the top of the fourth to putNMSU back on top, 9-5.
The Bulls added a run in the fourth to close to 9-6.
