Bruin Men Compete At MPSF Indoor Championships This Weekend

Art Venegas' UCLA men's track and field team this weekend (Friday-Saturday, Feb. 22-23)will compete at the MPSF Indoor Championships, held in Flagstaff, Ariz. and hosted by NorthernArizona University's J. Walkup Skydome.

On Friday (Feb. 22), competition starts at 1 p.m. MT and concludes at 4 p.m. MT (there areeight finals-m/w long jump, m/w weight throw, w pole vault, m high jump, m/w 3000m) and onSaturday (all finals), the meet starts at 10 a.m. MT and ends at 2:05 p.m. MT.

The Bruins are currently No. 26 on the latest U. S. collegiate power rankings, based on ateam's individual marks and dual meet strength.

At the MPSF, UCLA will be led by throwers, junior Scott Wiegand, senior Scott Moser andsophomore Danny Ames, along with senior sprinter Michael Lipscomb.

On the current NCAA Indoor shot put chart, Wiegand is No. 6, with a mark of 64-7.75,Ames is No. 11 (62-5.75) and Moser is No. 16 (61-5). In the 35lb. weight throw, Moser is No. 15(68-2.25) and Ames is No. 41 (61-1.50).

Lipscomb's time of 21.22 in the 200m is No. 15 on the current NCAA list.

In this week's MPSF Indoor lists, other Bruins to watch this weekend in Flagstaff are -sophomore Nick Thornton in the 800m (No. 2, 1:50.69), sophomore Denye Versher in the 400m (No.4, 47.56), UCLA's 4 X 400m relay (No. 3, 3:12.15), sophomore Juaune Armon in the long (No. 3,24-6.25) and triple jumps (No. 3, 49-7.75). Wiegand (shot put) and Moser (weight throw) are leaderson this week's MPSF list.

Upcoming meets include the USA Indoor Championships on March 1-2 in New York Cityand the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 8-9 in Fayetteville, AR.
