UCLA Women Compete At MPSF Indoor T & F Championships This Weekend

Jeanette Bolden's UCLA women's track and field team this weekend (Friday-Saturday, Feb.22-23) will compete at the MPSF Indoor Championships, held in Flagstaff, AZ and hosted byNorthern Arizona University's J. Walkup Skydome.

On Friday (Feb. 22), competition starts at 1 p.m. MT and concludes at 4 p.m. MT (there areeight finals-w/m long jump, w/m weight throw, w pole vault, m high jump, w/m 3000m) and onSaturday (all finals), the meet starts at 10 a.m. MT and ends at 2:05 p.m. MT.

The Bruin women are the two-time defending NCAA Indoor champions. This week, UCLAis rated No. 5 in the nation by trackwire online (based on how a team may score at the upcomingNCAA Indoor meet) and No. 13 on the latest U. S. collegiate Power Rankings (based on a team'sindividual marks and dual meet strength).

At the MPSF, UCLA will be led by sophomore Sheena Johnson in the 400m, sophomoreLena Nilsson in the 800m, the Bruins' 4 X 400m and distance medley relays, senior Darnesha Griffithin the high jump, senior Tracy O'Hara in the pole vault and in the throws, sophomore Jessica Cosby,junior Chaniqua Ross, freshman Briona Reynolds and junior Cari Soong.

On this week's NCAA Indoor charts, Johnson is No. 13 in the 400m (54.02), Nilsson is No.13 in the 800m (2:07.72), the Bruins' 4 X 400m relay (Nilsson, freshman Monique Henderson,sophomore Sani Roseby, Johnson) is No. 26 (3:42.47) and UCLA's distance medley relay (juniorTiffany Burgess, Henderson, junior Jessica Marr, Nilsson) is No. 6 (11:21.18).

In the field, on this week's NCAA lists, Griffith is No. 14 (5-10) in the high jump andO'Hara, the 2000 NCAA Indoor pole vault champion, is No. 2 (14-3.50).

In the throws, on this week's NCAA charts, Cosby is No. 2 (55-7) in the shot put and No. 41 (60-1) in the 20 lb. weight throw,Ross is No. 13 (52-4.50) in the shot put and Reynolds is No. 22 (51-7) in the shot put. In the weightthrow, Soong is No. 7 (66-8).
