Feb. 20, 2002

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Former Oregon State University women's soccer player, Jill Bakken, teamed with Vonetta Flowers on Tuesday night to win the Olympic gold medal in the inaugural women's bobsled competition.

Bakken attended Oregon State in the fall of 1996, where she participated in 16 games with nine starts for the Beaver soccer team. After the fall term of 1996 she left OSU to pursue bobsledding.

The victory by USA-2, the team of Flowers and Bakken, marked the first Olympic bobsled medal for the United States since 1956.
