Softball Splits Doubleheader With Arkansas
Feb. 23, 2002
FAYETTEVILLE- Sophomore pitcher Anissa Meashintubby improved to 4-0 on the season and the Ducks improved to 8-4 overall after splitting a doubleheader with Arkansas Saturday. Meashintubby led the Ducks to a 3-0 victory in the second game after Oregon dropped a 5-1 decision in the opening game.
'We were a lot more focused and played with more emotion in the second game,' Oregon head coach Brent Rincon said. 'We were more selective offensively and once we did that, we made them pay for it.'
Junior Lakeesha Eversley hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning of the second game to put the Ducks ahead 2-0 early. Behind strong pitching from Meashintubby - the Eugene native went 5 and one thirds inning, striking out five and walking just two - as well as flawless defense, Oregon held the Razorbacks scoreless and scored its final run in the top of the sixth inning to put the game away.
Eversley finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI and Andrea Vidlund was 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In the first game, the Razorbacks went ahead early, scoring five runs in the bottom of the second inning. Oregon committed four errors, allowing just one earned run. Freshman Lindsay Kontra (3-2) took the loss for the Ducks.
Vidlund continued her assault on the Oregon home run record, hitting her 16th home run to take over ninth all time. Kristi Hall accounted for Oregon's other hit in the game.
