Cougar Baseball Places Four On All-Tournament Team

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Washington State concluded a successful weekend at the Texas A&M Continental Express Classic by not only winning the four-day tournament, but also placing four players on the All-Tournament Team.
WSU went 4-2 to win the tournament title. In addition to that honor, second baseman Bookie Gates went 11-for-24 at the plate, including a 7-for-8 day on Monday to earn Tournament MVP honors.
Gates, a senior from Seattle, also had eight RBI, his first home run of the season and two triples. Third baseman Jeff LaRue, designated hitter Steve Mortimer and pitcher Brandon Hundt were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
LaRue went 7-of-20 at the plate, while Mortimer was 6-of-11. Hundt went 2-0 on Monday, picking up a win in relief and then pitching a complete game, allowing four hits and two runs.
The Cougars next travel to Dothan, Ala., for the Troy State Wiregrass Classic beginning Friday. WSU will meet Troy State at 4 p.m. The Cougars will meet Kent State at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Kansas State at 10 a.m. Sunday.
