Women's Golf Finish Seventh at Arizona Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's golf team turned in a three-over 291 Wednesday to finish seventh at the Arizona Invitational, a 54-hole tournament held Mon.-Tues., Feb. 25-26 at the par 72, 6,134-yard The Raven at Sabino Springs.
Led by first-year head coach Mickey Yokoi, the 10th-ranked Sun Devils climbed six spots in the last two rounds to turn in their fifth top-10 finish of the season with a three-round total of 897. Tuesday's round of 291 tied for the second-best round by the team this year. Duke captured the tournament title with a three-day total of 876, while Auburn and Arizona tied for second at 883. Oklahoma State finished fourth (888) and Texas and Tennessee tied for fifth (893).
For the Sun Devils, junior Melanie Hunt turned in her first top 15 finish of the season, tying for 14th with a three-day total of 222 (75-73-74). Junior Gaï¿½lle Truet finished in a tie for 32nd, shooting a two-under 70 in the final day for a three-day total of 226, (77-79-70), while freshman Erin Tone (77-82-84=233) and junior Blair O'Neal (80-76-81=237) tied for 52nd and 68th, respectively. Sophomore Jimin Kang shot a one-over 73 but was disqualified in the first round and did not figure in the individual standings, while freshman Josefin Gustafsson, who was playing as an individual, tied for 42nd (74-78-78=230).
Individually, Arizona's Lorena Ochoa won medalist honors, finishing with a three-day total of nine-under 207.
Arizona State returns to action next week, traveling to San Jose, Calif., for the San Jose State Spartan Invitational March 4-6 at the Corral de Tierra Golf Course.
