No. 9 Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Hawaii 3-1 And 5-2

TEMPE, Ariz. - For the second time in as many nights, the ninth-ranked Arizona State softball team (16-4) swept a doubleheader, this time, it came against the University of Hawaii by scores of 3-1 and 5-2 at Farrington Stadium Wednesday.
In the first game, ASU struck first in the first inning. Nichole Thompson led off with a single to center field. Kristin Farber then hit an infield single, but the throw to first was late and wide, advancing Farber all the way to third and scoring Thompson.
Hawaii would score their sole run in the third inning off three hits. The Sun Devils would answer in the bottom of the inning with two more runs. With Jennifer Forner on third, Phelan Wright laid down a perfect bunt to bring in a sliding Forner for the second run. Kara Brun then grounded out to shortstop, but drove in Thompson from third for the final run.
In the second game, ASU scored single runs in the first three innings to take a 3-0 advantage. However, Hawaii would trim the lead to 3-2 with a pair of solo home runs in the fourth inning.
But as in the first game, the Sun Devils answered the call in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Brun opened the frame with a double to center field. Beach then stepped to the plate and drilled a two run shot over the right field fence for the final 5-2 margin of victory.
Kristen Swetel began the game, going three and two-thirds innings with two runs. Voak (5-2) came in for the final three and a third innings to record the win with four strikeouts.
