February 28, 2002
EUGENE, Ore. - Senior Ami Forney and sophomore LaTasha O'Keith earned honorable mention All-Pac-10 recognition Thursday night at the inaugural Pac-10 Women's Basketball Tournament banquet at Chambers Production and Media Center.
The honor is the first for both Forney and O'Keith.
Forney, a 6-2 center, leads the Golden Bears in scoring (11.7 ppg), rebounding (6.7 rpg) and blocked shots (10 total, 0.4 pg). She also ranks among the conference leaders in several categories - 15th in scoring, seventh in rebounding, third in field goal percentage (50.7), sixth in offensive rebounds (2.77 pg) and ninth for defensive rebounds (3.96 pg).
A product of Newark, Calif., Forney has posted the fourth-most double-doubles in the Pac-10 this season (6) and has 13 for her career.
O'Keith, a 5-7 shooting guard, is second on the team in scoring at 9.3 points per game and averages slightly more during Pac-10 games (9.8). She also is averaging 3.1 rebounds per game and ranks second on the team in steals (1.4 pg) and three-point shots made (19).
The Carson, Calif., native has led or tied for team-high scoring honors in eight games this season and has posted double-figure points 13 times this year. As a freshman, O'Keith was named honorable mention Pac-10 All-Freshman.
In other news, Cal's 6-4 center Olga Volkova (1.7 ppg, 2.8 rpg) has missed the last seven games due to an ankle sprain and then questions surrounding her amateur athletic status. But, today the sophomore was declared eligible to play by Cal officials and joined the team in Eugene, a day after the team's arrival. She is expected to play in the Bears' first round tournament game against UCLA Friday.
Cal (7-20, 2-16 Pac-10) is the No. 9 seed in the tournament and takes on the eighth-seeded Bruins (8-19, 4-14) at 8:45 p.m. at McArthur Court. The Bears look to avenge two regular season losses to the Bruins. The winner of that game moves on to the quarterfinals to face second-ranked and top-seeded Stanford at 6 p.m. Saturday.
