No. 11 Softball Wins Worth Tourney Opener 5-4 Against No. 12 Pacific

The No. 11 Oregon State softball team defeated No. 12 Pacific 5-4 Friday afternoon in OSU's first game at the CS-Fullerton Worth Tournament.
OSU (17-4) put three runs on the board in the fifth to make it 5-2, and then shut down a Pacific rally in the seventh, holding the Tigers to two runs.
Freshman shortstop Kelly Petersen extended her hitting streak to 10 games with a 2-for-3 performance that included a two RBI and a double.
OSU sophomore Monica Hoffman pitched a complete game for the win, improving her record to 4-1 on the year.
'This was a very good game,' OSU coach Kirk Walker said. 'It was a hard-fought game with two top-20 programs.
'Monica pitched a great game, barring a few mistakes, she did a great job. Our defense made a couple mistakes, but stayed strong and did a good job with runners in scoring position.
'This was a big win for us. It was nice to play hard and play well in the opening game of the weekend.'
The Beavers are now 4-2 against top-25 schools this year.
