Softball Splits On Day One Of Red Desert Classic

ST. GEORGE, Utah - The University of softball team opened with a 4-1 victory over Utah State at the Red Desert Classic Friday afternoon. The Ducks finished the day 1-1 after falling 7-2 to host Utah in their second game.
Oregon is now 9-6 on the season and will open Pac-10 play versus Oregon State next weekend.
Senior Connie McMurren picked up the win against Utah Sate, improving her record to 2-3 overall. Offensively, Kristi Hall improved her hitting streak to seven games, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Hall scored the Ducks' first run after hitting her fourth double of the season. Erin Goodell promptly drove in Hall with a single and finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI.
'I thought the Utah State win was a good win for us,' Oregon head coach Brent Rincon said. 'We played flawless defense and executed defensively.'
Junior Lindsey Haij hit her first home run of the season - a two run shot in the fifth inning - to give the Ducks a 3-0 advantage. Haij finished 1-for-2.
The Ducks scored both of their runs in the second inning against Utah, but were unable to score down the stretch. The Utes scored in every inning except the first and the seventh to secure the victory. Sophomore transfer Jenn Poore led Oregon, finishing the game 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI after hitting her first home run of the season. Hall improved her hitting streak to eight games, going 1-for-3 with a run scored.
