No. 11 Softball Comes Up Empty Against Minnesota

The No. 11 Oregon State softball team suffered its second consecutive loss Saturday afternoon by a count of 2-1 to Minnesota, as the CS-Fullerton Worth Tournament continued.
Down 2-0 in the sixth, OSU (17-6) got a single through the left side from senior Michelle Notaro with one out. One out later, freshman Alana Mendoza singled to move Notaro to second. OSU took advantage of an error by Minnesota's second baseman after Brynnen Guthrie put the ball into play, allowing Notaro to score from second to make it 2-1.
OSU went quietly in the seventh though, going three-up and three-down to end the hope of a comeback, OSU went three-up and three-down in five different innings. Notaro and Mendoza provided OSU's only hits of the game.
The Beavers had a scoring opportunity in the first frame when third baseman Clare Burnum reached third base with one out after reaching on an error to lead off, but OSU was unable to capitalize.
Minnesota's runs came in the third inning, when the Gophers got one run in stealing home on a double steal, and followed that one out later with a RBI double for a 2-0 lead.
Junior Kristen Hunter started and lasted 2 2/3 innings, giving up both runs and taking the loss to fall to 5-3 on the year. Monica Hoffman and Crystal Draper combined to finish the game and gave up just two hits between them.
OSU's normally potent offense was held to two hits for the second straight game.
