Wrestling Holds Sixth Place After Session One at Pac-10 Championships

Corvallis, Ore. - Stanford is in sixth place after Session I of the Pac-10 Conference Wrestling Championships. With freshmen Brad Metzler (Omaha, NE/Westside) and Matt Gentry (Grant Pass, OR/North Valley) and senior Levi Weikel-Magden (Boardman, OR/Riverside) advancing to the Championship semifinals, the Cardinal is poised for a successful weekend.
Metzler (141) was awarded an injury defeat over third-seeded Casey Horn (Oregon State). He will face unseeded Brian Watson (Oregon) in the semifinals.
Gentry (149), who leads the Cardinal with 33 wins this season, notched a 4-2 decision over Cal Poly's Matt Cox to advance to the next round of competition. He will face the third seed, Cal State Bakersfield's Thomas Juarez.
Weikel-Magden (157) posted a 7-3 decision over Leo Sanchez (Cal State Fullerton) and will face Oregon's Tony Overstake in the semifinals.
Competition resumes at 6 p.m. for Session II. Sunday will begin with Session III at 11 a.m. and conclude with Session IV at 6 p.m.
