March 3, 2002
FULLERTON, Calif. - No. 11 Cal State Fullerton scored six unearned runs in the seventh Sunday and the Titans defeated the No. 17 USC Trojans, 8-1, in final day action at the 2002 Kia Baseball Bash at Goodwin Field. All six runs came with two outs after a throwing error by shortstop Michael Moon prolonged the inning.
Cal State Fullerton improved to 10-6 overall while USC fell to 6-7.
Jordan DeJong threw a complete game for the Titans, allowing one run on six hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.
USC scored first in the fourth inning. After fouling a bunt attempt, senior first baseman Bill Peavey doubled to right center. Peavey advanced to third on a ground ball by second baseman Anthony Lunetta and scored on a sacrifice fly by right fielder Travis McAndrews.
The Titans got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Chris Stringfellow hit a solo shot, his first of the season, to left field. Jason Corapci's RBI single in the fifth put Fullerton ahead, 2-1.
Sophomore Fraser Dizard made his first appearance of the season for the Trojans after dealing with a sore left elbow. Dizard was on a limited pitch count and threw one inning, allowing one hit with two walks and one strikeout.
The Trojans will travel to UC Irvine on Tuesday (March 5) at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on www.usctrojans.com.
