Ferguson Paces Women's Golf At SJSU Invitational

Oregon State junior Stacie Ferguson carded a 75 to pace the women's golf team at the San Jose State Spartan Invitational and is tied for 21st after Monday's opening round at the par 72, 5,938-yard Corral de Tierra Country Club.
The Beavers shot a 312 and are in 13th in a field of 16 teams with two rounds to play. Among the field are seven of the nation's top 25 programs.
Ferguson, whose top finish of 21st this year came at the OSU Shanico Invitational, shot 37 on her first nine and finished with a 38. The Tucson, Ariz., native is among 12 players who shot 75 on Monday.
Ashlei Pendleton, who leads the team in scoring average at 76.6, shot 37-40--77 to tie for 43rd.
The Beavers own a nine-shot lead over UNLV, and trail No. 19 Washington by six shots. A pack of five teams are 10 strokes ahead of OSU and are within one shot of each other in a tie for sixth and eighth.
California leads the tournament by five strokes over No. 16 Pepperdine after shooting 289 to open the tournament.
Cal's Ria Quizon forged a three-shot lead over three players after a 68 on Monday.
The field is scheduled to play 18 holes on Tuesday and Wednesday for a total of 54.
