Two Husky Tracksters Earn Invitations to NCAA Indoor Championships

Husky milers Eric Garner and Courtney Inman were officially named by the NCAA selection committee to the field of competitors at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, Mar. 8-9, in Fayetteville, Ark. Both will be making their NCAA debuts.
Garner, who on Saturday became the first athlete to run a four-minute mile in the state of Washington, earned an automatic NCAA bid with a mark of 3:58.93 at the Indoor Qualifier. Greg Gibson, the only other Husky to break the four-minute mark, set the previous school record of 3:59.1 in San Diego in 1974.
Joining Garner at the conference meet will be junior miler Courtney Inman, whose qualifying time of 4:45.40 from the Indoor Qualifier bettered the Huskies' indoor school record by more than five seconds. Inman's mark ranks 17th overall entering the national meet.
Preliminaries for both the men's and women's mile runs are scheduled for Fri., Mar. 8, with finals to occur Sat., Mar. 9.
