Dustin White Shoots To No. 13 In Latest Golfstat Cup Standings
March 7, 2002
PULLMAN, Wash. - Entering the week, Washington State University junior Dustin White was 47th in the Men's Golfstat Cup standings.
After a tournament victory that featured three rounds in the 60's earlier this week, White has vaulted to No. 13 in this week's Golfstat Cup rankings.
White's 24-spot jump comes on the heels of a seven-shot individual victory at the Coastal Carolina Invitational at Myrtle Beach, S.C., March 5. White carded rounds of 68-69-67 to post a school record 54-hole total of 204 (-12), seven shots better than Virginia Tech's Brendon De Jonge, who is No. 5 is this week's Golfstat rankings.
In recording his first career win, White bested a field that featured six golfers ranked in the top 50 in this week's Golfstat poll.
'Dustin is a spectacular player who played awesome this week,' said WSU Head Coach Walt Williams. 'To win by seven shots over one of the top players in the nation is pretty amazing. I was excited, as was the whole team, with his success. I was in awe of how well he played.'
In posting his sixth top-10 finish of the season, the Pueblo West, Colo., native led the Cougars to an 18-stroke victory over Southern Methodist University at the Myrtle Beach Grande Dunes Resort Course. The win marked the second consecutive victory and the third triumph of the 2001-02 season by WSU. The Cougars captured the Vandal Invitational, Sept.25 and the Inland Collegiate Challenge, Feb. 18.
White has not finished out of the top 24 in any of the eight tournaments he has competed in this season while leading the Cougars with a 70.7 scoring average.
