March 8, 2002

Spokane, Wash.--- The No. 26 WSU women's tennis team lost to No. 53 Boise State 4-2, Friday.

WSU opened the match by winning two of three doubles matches and the doubles point. Erica Perkins and Stacy McKenna, the Cougar duo ranked 16th nationally, beat Boise State's No. 44 Helen Lawson and Renate Stoop 8-4. Cougars Chris Martinez and Zorana Roganovic beat Broncos Anna Curtolo and Alyssa Ayling 8-6.

'Boise State really came after us today,' said Washington State coach Cari Groce. 'They did what they needed to do to beat us. We didn't play exceptionally well today, and we didn't show up and play how we're capable of playing.'

The win dropped Washington State's record to 4-3.

Perkins, a senior ranked 68th nationally, earned the only singles victory for the Cougars. She beat Boise State's Lawson 6-2, 6-3.

The Cougars return to action Saturday against No. 20 Washington in Spokane.
