Baseball Finishes Texas Tournament With 7-3 Win Against Creighton

ROUND ROCK, Tx. - Sophomore reliever Jon Williams went 5 1/3 innings Sunday, allowing only one run (unearned), to register the victory and the USC Trojans defeated the Creighton Bluejays, 7-3, in final-day action at the 2002 Express College Classic at the Dell Diamond. Senior center fielder Brian Barre went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Trojans.
USC improved to 8-9 overall while Creighton fell to 3-6 on the season. The Trojans went 2-1 in the tournament.
The Trojans scored two in the top of the first on an RBI double by freshman Joey Metropoulos and RBI single by junior David Gordon. After Creighton scored one run in the first, the Trojans added two more in the second on back-to-back RBI singles by sophomore Rafael Torres and Barre.
Senior first baseman Bill Peavey completed the scoring in the seventh with a two-run shot to right, his third of the season.
The Trojans travel to San Diego on Wednesday (March 13) for a 2:00 p.m. game at Cunningham Stadium. The game will not be broadcast on www.usctrojans.com, however, the Trojans' games at Pepperdine next weekend will be on the Internet. USC plays only two games at Pepperdine on Saturday (March 16) and Sunday (March 17) with 1 p.m. starts for both games.
