March 10, 2002
Comments from USC Coach Henry Bibby and Players regarding the Trojans' draw in the NCAA Tournament.
USC will play UNC-Wilmington at 4:55 p.m. in the third game of the day at Arco Arena. The Indiana-Utah game will follow 25 minutes after. The Midwest Region action at Arco Arena features Wake Forest-Pepperdine at 11:42 a.m. followed by Oregon-Montana 25 minutes after.
Saturday's tip times are 2:30 p.m. and 4:56 p.m., but which game gets which time slot will not be determined until Thursday night.
Head Coach Henry Bibby: 'I thought we made a nice showing in the last month of the season. We finished second in the Pac-10 Tournament and beat Stanford and Oregon, which might have boosted our position. That's what you look for out of the conference tournament, a chance to earn a better seed. We've got no complaints.
'I don't know too much about UNC Wilmington besides the fact I grew up about 100 miles from there (in Franklin, N.C.). My assistants tell me they're a good team that executes well. I'll know much more about them tonight.'
Senior Forward David Bluthenthal: 'Just making it was I'll I was concerned about. It doesn't matter to me who we play. We have one goal in mind. We've just got to beat whoever is in the way.'
Senior Point Guard Brandon Granville: 'I think our seeding is solid. I'm still just kind of taking it all in. We've been gradually getting more respect the last two years, but we feel we still have got a lot to prove. We're still searching for respect, which keeps us hungry.'
Senior Forward Sam Clancy: 'We don't have to go through a time change or go to far from home, which is a plus. What we did in the Pac-10 Tournament helped us out with the wins over Stanford and Oregon and helped us earn a better position. People talk about Duke as a possible match-up, but we can't look past the first round. We need to take it one game at a time.'
