Softball Falls 9-3 To Notre Dame
March 10, 2002
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The University of Oregon softball team fell 9-3 to Notre Dame in the final day of the UNLV Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. The loss snapped a five game win streak for Oregon and the Ducks dropped to 14-8 on the season. Notre Dame, which dropped out of the NFCA Top 25 last week, improves to 6-7 overall.
'Notre Dame just played outstanding,' Oregon head coach Brent Rincon said. 'We dug ourselves into a hole, but we showed a lot of character by scoring runs in the fourth and seventh innings. The defensive lapses just made the difference in this game.'
Oregon used three pitchers in the effort with freshman Lindsay Kontra, who started the game, picking up the loss. The Ducks had six hits and scored two runs in the fourth inning and one run in the top of the seventh, but six errors by Oregon's defense allowed Notre Dame to score five unearned runs and keep the lead large enough to hold off Oregon's offensive efforts.
The Ducks open Pac-10 play this Saturday when they host No. 14 Oregon State at Howe Field. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
