March 11, 2002

PULLMAN-- The Washington State University women's swim team ranked first in the Pacific-10 Conference academically for the Fall 2001 term according to the College Swim Coaches Association of America.

The Cougars continued in their tradition of academic prowess with a team semester grade-point average of 3.16, placing them No. 1 in the conference for the fifth consecutive year. The team's national ranking of 30th also makes Washington State the only Pac-10 team ranked in the top-50 nationally.

'To lead the Pac-10 in academics is a classy act,' WSU head coach Rocco Aceto said. 'Both the team and I are very proud of this accomplishment.'

WSU sophomores Rachel Dong and Andree-Anne LeRoy look to expand on the team's athletic success competing at the NCAA Swimming Championships, March 21-23 at Austin, Texas.
