SCOUTING THE VIKINGS: Portland State enters the weekend at 5-10 as of March 11. PSU went 2-2 last weekend at the University of Kansas Holiday Inn Invitational, beating Princeton (3-1) and Indiana State (5-2), while dropping games to Princeton (3-2) and Kansas (5-0). OSU and Portland State have four common opponents to date this year (OSU score in parentheses). Portland State beat San Jose State 2-1 (W, 5-0) and Oklahoma State 4-1 (W, 2-0), but lost to Pacific 1-0 (W, 5-4) and San Diego State 4-1 (L, 0-1). Catcher Rose Rutledge leads the squad at the plate with a .355 average on 11-31 hitting in 14 games. Three other starters bat better than .300: OF Monica Martell (.341), 3B Annie Peccia (..303), and UT Kara Ray (.303). Junior Morgan Siebert leads the pitching staff with a 2.76 ERA.

SCOUTING THE DUCKS: Oregon (14-8 overall) finished 3-1 at the UNLV Invitational Mar. 8-10, beating Boston College twice and UNLV once. Andrea Vidlund, a pitcher/outfielder leads the squad with a .418 batting average on 28-for-67 hitting. She also has six homeruns and 26 RBI to boot. Anissa Meashintubby leads the Ducks from the circle with a 2.20 ERA. Vidlund and Kristi Hall both bat better than .400, while the team hits at a .295 clip. Opponents bat .268.

BEAVERS VS. THE OPPOSITION: OSU has a combined series record of 117-97-2 against the competition this weekend. OSU has dominated the series with Portland State 53-26-1, and is 14-4 under current coach Kirk Walker. Against Oregon - OSU's longest running opponent at 136 games - the Beavers are 64-71-1, and 16-12-1 under Walker. OSU has a two-game winning streak against the Vikings and was 3-1 in the schools' four meetings in 2001. OSU owns an eight-game winning streak against the Ducks - dating back to May 15, 1999 - which includes a three-game sweep in 2001 by a combined score of 23-5.
