No. 3 Bruins Pound No. 21 Duke, 6-1

Los Angeles - Despite gusty winds all day long, the No. 3-ranked UCLA men's tennis team remained focused, registering a 6-1 victory over No. 21 Duke at the Los Angeles Tennis Center Wednesday. With the win, the Bruins improve their record to 14-1, while the Blue Devils fall to 4-8.

The day was started with doubles play, as UCLA notched victories on all three courts to claim the one point awarded for doubles play.

In singles, the Bruins were equally impressive, taking five of six matches. In a battle of top-20 opponents, 13th-ranked Tobias Clemens of UCLA came back from a set down to defeat No. 17 Phil King of Duke, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. At No. 4 singles, Bruin Rodrigo Grilli turned in the most impressive performance of the day, defeating Duke's Joel Spicher, 6-0, 6-2. Marcin Matkowski, Erfan Djahangiri and Lassi Ketola were also victorious for UCLA.

Duke claimed its one point on the day at No. 2 singles where Michael Yani edged UCLA's Jean-Julien Rojer, 6-3, 6-1.

On Tuesday, the No. 8 UCLA women's tennis team upset No. 4 Duke, 4-3 at the LATC.

UCLA will be off the next two weeks for finals and Spring Break. The Bruins will next be in action on Mar. 29 when they host Arizona at the LATC beginning at 1:30 p.m.
