Spring Football Practice Dates Announced
March 13, 2002
Corvallis, Ore. -
Forty-six lettermen, including 17 starters, will be on hand when spring football practice at Oregon State University begins Thurs., April 4 at Tommy Prothro Field or the Merritt Truax Indoor Center. The 15-day practice period includes three scrimmages, with the annual spring game set for Reser Stadium April 27.
'Our goals for spring, as they are every time at this point of the year, are to improve on both sides of the ball,' Head Coach Dennis Erickson said. 'What is very critical in terms of positions at this point is at quarterback, we need an individual to emerge as the starter, whether it be Derek Anderson, Shayne House, or someone else. Anytime you go into spring ball with a new quarterback that is a concern. Overall, I feel pretty good about our offense, with another goal to improve depth on the line.'
All practice sessions are open the public, spectators are cautioned to remain at a safe distance from the sidelines to avoid injury to themselves or student-athletes.
'Defensively we are fortunate that we have a lot of players returning, but as with the offense we need to develop some depth on our line,' Erickson added. 'We also need some of our young linebackers to emerge as the third starter or backups, create some depth at the corners, and develop a starter at strong safety.'
Fall practice begins Sat., Aug 3 when the freshmen report, with the full squad reporting Tues., Aug. 6.
