UCLA Men's Track Victorious in First Home Meet

Coach Venegas' men's team opened the 2002 season with victories over Washington State and Cal. The Bruin won the triangular meet with 160.5 points (Washington State - 148.5, Cal - 89). The Bruins were also victorious in dual meet action, defeating Cal 127-68, and Washington State 104.5-98.5. The Bruins won 11 events on the day. Top performers were Scott Moser, Pat Luke, Juaune Armon, Dan Ames, Ben Aragon, Charles Ryan, Kyle Erickson, Bryan Green and Michael Lipscomb.
Senior Scott Moser won both the hammer throw (personal best199-2, 60.72m) and discus (186-10, 56.94m). Pat Luke vaulted a personal best 16-8.75 (5.10m) to win the pole vault. Sophomore Juaune Armon won the long jump with a wind-legal career best mark of 25-3.25 (7.70m)(+1.2). In the shot put, Dan Ames won with a throw of 60-2 (18.34m).
In the running events, true freshman Ben Aragon on the 1500m (3:53.22). Charles Ryan won the 110m hurdles in 14.01 and Kyle Erickson won the 400m hurdles in 51.09. Senior Bryan Green won the 5000m (14:30.50) and Michael Lipscomb won the 200m in 20.91 (+2.8w).
The 4x400m Relay team of Ryan, Lipscomb, Nick Thornton and Erickson won in 3:12.56.
