Wildcat Track & Field Finishes Final Day of Willie Williams Classic

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona's men's and women's track and field teams closed out the final day of competition at the Willie Williams Classic on Saturday evening. The Wildcats competed well in the non-scoring affair featuring several Arizona junior colleges and some small universities.
In the women's sprinting events, Seynabou Ndiaye was the lone Wildcat in the 100m dash finishing third in 11.95. Danielle Price and Gina Mazzone finished seventh and twelfth respectively in the 400m. Price came through with a time of 58.52, while Mazzone finished in 1:00.58. Alexandra Komnos was second in the 100m hurdles with a final time of 14.01. Amy Linnen followed Komnos in fourth with a time of 14.56, while Chelsea Powell finished fifth in 15.09. The women's 4x400m relay team finished third in 3:53.47.
In the only distance event of the day, Beth Hoge led the Wildcats in the 1,500m finishing second in 4:37.10. Jennifer Burris was not far behind in third place finishing in 4:43.74. Cara Cline finished sixth in 4:51.05.
On the field, Linnen won the high jump event with a leap of 5-8 ï¿½ (1.75m). Amanda Underwood finished seventh in the long jump with a final mark of 16-3 ï¿½ (4.97m). In the hammer throw, Angela Foster finished second with a throw of 181-7 (55.34m). Foster also finished fifth in the discus with a toss of 139-4 (42.46m).
In men's sprinting action, J.R. Harrison was the top finisher for the Wildcats in the 100m in eighth place with a time of 11.11. Matt Lea led the way for the Wildcats in the 400m with a time of 48.37. In the 110m hurdles, Jeff Hunter came up with a first-place finish in a time of 14.17. The men's 4x100m relay 'B' team came through with a first-place finish in 40.55. The 4x400m relay team was sixth in 3:20.63.
In the men's field events, Matt Johnson finished tied for third in the high jump with a final height of 6-6 (1.98m). Also in the high jump, Peter Fabian finished in seventh with a jump of 6-2 (1.88m). In the pole vault, Kevin Opalka and Chris Chappell finished third and fourth respectively. Opalka finished at 16-4 ï¿½ (5.00m), while Chappell reached 15-11 (4.85m). Harrison finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 22-2 ï¿½ (6.77m). In the discus throw, Sean Shields finished in third with a throw of 175-10 (53.60m), while teammate Richard Legarra was fourth with a toss of 172-8 (52.62m). Ryan Moore finished fifth in the hammer throw with a final mark of 173-0 (52.74m).
The Wildcats will be at home next weekend on Saturday, March 23 in the Jim Click Shootout where they will face the likes of Colorado, Air Force and Boise State.
