Hartley Sweeps Zone E Diving Championships

USC freshman Blythe Hartley completed a three-day sweep at the 2002 NCAA Zone E Diving Meet by winning the women's platform event on the final day of competition at the Maas Family Diving Center at Stanford on Saturday (March 16).
Hartley, who had won the women's 1-meter on Thursday and the 3-meter on Friday, scored 482.45 points for the victory. Hartley qualified for the NCAA Championships with senior teammate Kellie Brennan and sophomore teammate Nicci Fusaro.
Hartley won the 1-meter with 322.20 points and took first in the 3-meter with 556.35. Fusaro was second in the platform (439.80), fourth in the 1-meter (263.60) and seventh in the 3-meter (464.45). Brennan was sixth in the 1-meter (252.40), seventh in the platform (374.75) and 11th in the 3-meter (450.60).
While Hartley will be making her NCAA debut this year, Brennan enters her final NCAA championship as a four-time All-American, having reached the finals of both springboard events in each of the past two seasons. Fusaro earned All-American honors as a freshman last year by reaching the finals of the 3-mete.
The 2002 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will be held March 21-23 in Austin, Texas. The 2002 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships will be held March 28-30 in Athens, Georgia.
