Keira Goerl Named Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA's Keira Goerl was named Pitcher of the Week while Arizona State third baseman Phelan Wright has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week while for March 12-17, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Goerl, from Moreno Valley, Calif., threw a complete game shutout against UC Santa Barbara, scattering just two hits, striking out eight and walking one. During the contest, opposing batters hit .087 against the righthander.
On the year, Goerl is 14-2 with an 0.34 ERA. She also has 151 strikeouts in 103.0 innings pitched. Goerl becomes the first pitcher to win back-to-back Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors since Washington's Jennifer Spediacci (Mar. 21 and Mar. 28, 2000).
Wright, from Los Alamitos, Calif., batted .700 (14-for-20) with four runs scored, nine RBI and six doubles as the Sun Devils were the lone Pac-10 team to advance to the semifinals of the KIA Klassic in Fullerton, Calif. (Arizona and Washington also participated). In all six contests, she posted multi-hit games with 20 total bases and a 1.000 slugging percentage.
Overall, Wright leads ASU in batting average (.484), hits (45), home runs (6), doubles (12), slugging percentage (.806) and is second in RBI (27).
It is the fifth weekly honor for Wright and the 35th for Arizona State all-time. Goerl earns the third award of her career. UCLA has now received 64 honors all-time.
