Garthwaite Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Outfielder Jay Garthwaite has been named the Pacific-10 Conference's baseball Player ofthe Week, the conference office announced today.
Garthwaite, a junior from Kent, Wash. (Kent-Meridian HS), batted .538 (7-for-13) in thethree-game series vs. Brigham Young last week. He hit three triples and two home runsand drove in seven runs over the three games. He also stole a base, threw a runner out onthe bases and scored five runs.
The honor is the second such award for Garthwaite, who also earned Player of the Week asa freshman in 2000. The Huskies hadn't had a weekly award winner since May of 2000,when Ed Erickson won.
USC sophomore Jon Williams was named the Pitcher of the Week.
The Huskies (9-8-1) take this week off before returning to action next Monday andTuesday in a pair of non-conference games at Washington State. Next Thursday throughSaturday, March 28-30, the UW opens the Pac-10 season at Arizona State. All three of theASU games will air live on radio on KKNW AM-1150.
